Sorry but that Yoichi Shimatsu article is just wrong. Yes, MIT did set up a Media Lab in Cambodia but it's in Robib, which is a tiny village with no running water and no telecommuncations infrastructure (at that time). It was set up to do tele-medicine. The information is/was downloaded and transferred by motorbike to the nearest village with internet.
Child pornography (at the highest level) was being sent out of Cambodia in the diplomatic black bags.
