Keith Neale, a 60-year-old homeless man, had his conviction for obstructing a police officer by failing to give his details quashed, by the High Court sitting in Cardiff. In an important judgment on the legal duties of citizens under the coronavirus regulations Mrs Justice Steyn and Lord Justice Dingemans ruled that Neale was under no common law obligation or statutory duty to give the police his name and address”

All police forces are private corporations, just like all governments, councils. etc. You owe them shit unless you have a contract with them or they own you: they may not administer your property without right. Your property includes you, your body, your genetic material, your data, etc. That's why you will see many people say "I choose not to contract with you"......and they know exactly what that means.

I agree with the sentiment, but I wouldn't say they're "private". The private sector needs to offer a good service to earn its money. They need to satisfy customers and compete in the market, hiring qualified people with wages enough to keep them employed while assuming responsibilities, otherwise they go out of business. The public sector does not compete since it has a monopoly, they get their funding through coercion no matter how corrupt and inefficient they may be, people are hired based on nepotism and their "service" is mandatory. You didn't sign up for it, yet you're bound by contract. The worst thing is that they get away with it because people still think the state is the solution to everything and politicians are there for the public good.

Some say taxation is theft since you're forced to give your money. I disagree. Taxation is extortion; you're forced to give your money so that the state can protect you... from what it can do to you if you don't. It's a mafia racket. The state is a necessary evil (at least for now). Like a fire, if it burns out you're left in the cold and in the dark. But also like a fire it consumes everything and has the tendency to expand. It must be kept in check through many mechanisms; one of them is civilian armament.
