The SoftLayer + The Planet merge = 25,000 customers with 78,000 servers http://www.aeromental.net/2010/08/06/th ... 0-servers/
Hosting Companies, SoftLayer and The Planet are preparing a huge merge that will make the combined entity one of the world’s largest providers of web hosting and cloud computing services. The new company will have more than 25,000 customers and manage more than 78,000 servers. SoftLayer CEO Lance Crosby will head the merged company, which will be based in Dallas but continue operating The Planet’s offices at its Houston headquarters.
Bain & Company will assist in integration
Doug Erwin, CEO of The Planet (photo above), said he and his team are working hard to bring the merger to fruition and build a combined company that it is more than the sum of its parts.
SoftLayer Chief Strategy Officer George Karidis will direct the integration process. Erwin said that Bain & Company has been hired to assist the companies in architecting a smooth transition of systems, customers, employees and facilities.
Combining two huge hosting companies is no picnic. Doug Erwin oversaw the post-merger integration of The Planet and EV1 Servers after GI Partners acquired both companies in 2006.
http://www.aeromental.net/2010/08/05/ho ... -to-merge/
Investment firm GI Partners revealed on Tuesday that GI had acquired hosting company SoftLayer.
GI also owns a large stake in the hosting service The Planet, and now they are in discussions to merge The Planet with SoftLayer. The goal is for the transaction to be complete in the fourth quarter of this year... SoftLayer adds an interesting asset to a growing ecosystem of hosting properties managed by GI. The company owns dedicated hosting provider The Planet, along with collocation provider Telx (though that company is expected to go public sometime this year), an interest in Digital Realty Trust, as well as a recently-acquired interest in data center company ViaWest.

Diego Della Valle (born 30 December 1953) is the chairman of the Italian leather goods company Tod's.... Even during his younger days, Diego was business savvy: Diego used the power of celebrity to popularise his product, such an example was to have once persuaded his friend Luca di Montezemolo, who was a protégé of the then Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli, to present Agnelli with a pair of Tod's driving moccasins – the lawyer got Agnelli to wear Tod's shoes when attending Juventus football matches, which were widely televised; this product placement prompted a spike in sales.
Diego now manages Tod's with his brother Andrea. Diego's older son, Emanuele, is also involved with the family business as the creative director. The factory in Casette d'Ete was designed by his wife, Barbara..
Diego sits on the board of a number of companies, such as Ferrari, Maserati, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro and LVMH.

The director of an iconic private members' club reveals what goes on behind closed doors — and the red flag that stops him from accepting someone new
https://www.businessinsider.com/home-ho ... ?r=US&IR=T
When it comes to wild parties, Andrew Richardson has seen it all. Since 2008, he's been Managing Director of Home House, the London private members' club which, founded in 1998, he says is "a place where people can do all things at all times" — but he says this "civilised hedonism" takes place without any trouble.
The atmosphere seems to have been successful — among the 5,000 members are the likes of Paul McCartey, who "can often be seen in the gym having a workout," Madonna, and even David Hasselhoff, who Richardson said "was in the garden a couple of days ago." ..
Richardson, who claims to come from humble beginnings, said he started out as a dishwasher at a local hotel when he was young and needed to earn some cash.
Then he trained as a chef and embarked on a career working in hotels such as The Dorchester, The Park Lane Hotel, The Royal Berkshire Hotel in Ascot, and The Hilton in Paris.
At the age of 26, he was asked to move to Hong Kong to work with a private restaurant group, where he became the managing director within 10 years. In 2002, he returned to the UK to become the manager of the Billesley Manor Hotel and Spa.
At the same time, he said: "I became governor at the [culinary] college I was trained at, bought the local pub, and sponsored the local cricket team. It was all jolly lovely, but not quite what I'd anticipated."
.."In my mixed portfolio, there was a property just outside of Oxford, owned by the owners of Home House," he said. "I turned around the fortunes of the property quickly, executed a clear plan and strategy, and got the attention of Home House.
