This is the most euro-centric headline I've ever seen.
The kaffers were not contimating the river, but merely decontaminating it, returning it to pre-colonization levels of dangerous chemicals.
The rivers were yet another thing that the white, racist, bastard colonizers had to change when they came down to exploit the kaffers.
Now, with the racist Apartheid government out of the way, the kaffers can return the rivers to their natural, polluted states.
