We had gotten used to utilizing @SearchVoat's superior search engine. It did the job very well and had become the go-to place to search for submissions and comments. Voat's own search engine was turned off since forever (I have no idea when this took place). If I remember correctly it was been exploited to hog server resource at some point.
About a few (maybe 2) year back, I was playing with the URL for Voat's search engine, out of curiosity. It turned out that if you structured the parameters in a certain way, the search request would be honored, despite it being supposedly disabled. When a very generic term was given, it would search for minutes, until the query timed out with an error message. You could scale it up by running multiple searches simultaneously. I believe this was fixed after the report.
Another fond memory of Voat.
Did you know that Voat's search engine was not quite disabled for a very long time?

I noticed at Republic briadcasting I could shave the url back until I got into the site archive index for recorded shows, you had to pay for. I made full use.
