@Serendipity mod admin to main ••

How do you do fellow faggots.

On Saturday 9/11/21 at approximatley 11:00 AM EST Goatpen the site, Element\Matrix chat and other associated services will be going down for less than 8 hours.

The original plan outlined Here kind of fell through.

Basically I told my landlord that I would be leaving in about 12-16 weeks and he offered me 2500 to move out in 2 weeks. We have a good relationship, he just needs someone in here and it’s easy to do due to college season hitting the shitty I live in.

Due to not having the time to get my CDN up and running I have worked out a deal with a datacenter in Connecticut for a half-rack, 150mbps, and plenty of power at a little more than I wanted to spend but will figure something out.

The outage is for me to physically move the cluster physically from location to location and get DNS records set.

Goatpen is hosted on two Dell R630’s and each have two Xeon E5-2690 v4 processors (56 logical processors at 2.60 ghz), 796gb of ram, each host also has a graphics card and is connected to a SAN that has roughly 12tb of storage accessible via 10gbps ethernet managed by a dell N4048 switch. This is way more power than the site needs. I host other crap and I’m proud to say of writing this my uptime on the cluster

is 239 days. The amount of horsepower I have at my fingertips provides a substantial amount of flexibility and makes so much more sense for me to retain physical control of the hardware.

Thanks for the understanding.

Yes, slur filter is hard-coded and there is no configurable setting for that on Lemmy. They planned on getting rid of Lemmy and working on a new platform.

It loads but I was never able to make an account. Someone on Element even did it for me but it wouldn't log me in. I really don't care though. Not missing out on much.

But Lemmy is open source. Should be able to change source and recompile. One of the reasons I never took this site seriously. But the main reason is that at this point I don't trust any site where an admin can ban or censor. The ultimate solution to free speech has to be a distributed platform where each user decides what they want to see.

Goatpen is a very small community. It only has 364 user accounts, 186 communities, 5930 posts, and 16734 comments, according to the sidebar status. Only 25 users are currently online.

True. But it might have to do with Lemmy authors who are dedicated to make it difficult to remove. They outright stated that they did not want people to remove this filter. There was a fork on git repo. But that version is very old and appears abandoned.
