Geese are really skittish and you have to know where they land and go there before they arrive to basically be successful. Duck hunting sounds more fun
I really only need to be okay with poaching. They like to be the exact opposite of skittish where I live. They'll hiss and threaten you, they'll gang up and surround you, etc...
They do this pretty much all spring and summer, even until the early fall when the goslings are actually quite able to fend for themselves.
Sadly, shooting them during this time is unlawful.
We have partridge (pheasants basically) here and those are the worst for hunting. You hunt for them by walking through the woods with a shotgun. They hide under bushes and they blend in VERY well. I have, in my entire life, never once spotted one before it started flying.
Now, when they come out of the bushes, they'd doing so with their wings flapping and the stillness of the forest is violated with this giant eruption of noise.
It jumps the shit out of me - every single time. Every time - really.
Because I'm a stickler for knowing where I'm shooting, this means I've shot exactly zero partridge. They are gone before I feel comfortable taking a shot. My heart rate takes entire minutes to go back to normal. I'm pretty sure I'll never shoot one.

I went geese hunting once...they are really hard to kill. Super smart birds.
Not related to Ducks. There are no ducks where I live. But Geese let me tell you! Difficult.
@TheBuddha you ever go duck or geese hunting? Any secrets?

Duck hunting is pretty easy. Go with someone that knows how to call ducks and shoot 'em.
Amazingly, I have never shot a goose. I have wanted to shoot many geese, but they weren't in season.
