Today marks not an end to the FNGT, but marks a new chapter. There may be laughter and joy, or there may be tears and sorrow. For some, it could be both - and that's okay.

Let us huddle around the final embers that was the fire of Voat - but let us not go out silently. Let us leave this place with ruckus and merriment. Let us not just make enough noise to be heard 'round the fire, but let us make enough noise to be heard for miles around - so that others may appreciate our gifts.

Today it is the last guitar thread on Voat. If Voat goes down during the thread, look for us on Preview Voat

So far, I think most everyone knows we're moving and where we're moving to. We might even pick up some new users on Poal. So, it's not a really horrible thing (for us), so much as it is a different thing for us.

It's just yet one more chapter in the long history of the Friday Night Guitar Thread.

I like it! And, you may not be last - there may be more. I like that you ALWAYS tackle something that challenges you. ALWAYS. That's how you get to the top. I made a claim earlier that I'm one of the best (top 500) guitar players in the world. I'm comfy with that claim. Why? I challenged the fuck out of myself and put my hours in. It's not ego when I say I'm in the top 500, that's just reality and is a result of the work I put in.

You too challenge yourself. I appreciate that. I appreciate that far more than someone playing it perfectly.

Also, you gotta do it all over again. We're playing another show tomorrow night at Poal! So, keep your energy and spirits up. We're going on the road! Two shows in two nights. The roadies are gonna bitch, but that's why they make the big bucks!

It takes time and effort to get into the top 500 of anything. I'm pretty comfy putting myself in that category. I think it shows in the work I put out.

It's "easy" to play your own thing. It's REALLY fuckin' hard to recreate something that someone else made and to do it so that it sounds identical. That's why you don't hear a lot of truly faithful covers, they're all a little different than what was originally recorded.

My goal, and by extension those with me, is to sound exactly like the album. It's not easy, but that's one of my favorite parts of the challenge.

This is a rough demo and it has some sort of digital artifact in it. Don;t know why but probably a digital drifting problem if I were to guess. I recorded it so I wouldn't forget it. The guitar and drums do sound a bit like The Doors. The guitar more than the drums. Densmore only played a jazz kit.

The keys kicked in and there was some Doors in there with that organ sound.

The vocals don't do a whole lot of "Jim" for me, even with the kinda crescendos and screams. Yeah, I'm not getting any Jim there - but I can definitely hear it in the music.

The piano is the top notch instrument of all time. I learned Linus and Lucy by Guaraldi way back when. Check this out: to really play it right, you gotta staccato the left hand and legato the right hand. I noticed that after hearing that song for like a million times. I don't know how that guy did it. Listen to it close to see if you can hear the different styles played by the two hands.

My band was able to play all through the summer tourist season, so they've got their nest egg back up AND they're eligible for unemployment. That's a rarity! They all make their only income through their musicianship AND they got unemployment!

well I went to Clyp and now they want money? I had an old SoundCloud account so used it. I can't believe I could remember the sign-in info but I did. I had a copyright strike against me there for when I played over the Don Henley Dirty Laundry solo. kek. I thought they benned meh but they didn't.

The guy singing was an incredible vocalist. I was in a band with him years ago and I also did some cancer benefit concerts with him over the years. His wife is also a helluva singer. We used to cover shit like Heart and other chic bands with her then her hubby would jump on the mic and we'd do all kinds of stuff, from Ozzy, Metallica to you name it. He passed a few years ago from a heart aneurysm. He was young and healthy until that. Me & bass player WAS singing back-up vocals. You have a good ear. He can sing just like Michael Anthony and play bass far better than Billy Sheehan. That was actually his fav bassist. and Geddy, I guess. He was into The Police so we did a lot of that music, too.

LOL I did. I broke my heel and several other bones in my right foot. It was kinda crushed but I was able to pull it out before they got there with the Jaws of Life. It was bad enough that my shoe was cut off that foot.

Worse, it was the left femur that broke and the right foot that got a bit mangled.

All together, I mostly only bitched about the femur - and the ribs. The ribs sucked. The ribs really sucked. Laying down, I got a bit of a chest cold.

Fortunately, I was on strong opiates for a long, long time.

LOL Back in November I was on the track in a real BMW M6 GT3. It was actually pretty safe. I was wearing all my PPE. Even the wife spent some time on the track, albeit in a different car.

She's lovely. She's such a treat on the track. She's also brand new - or was. She's a bit scuffed from curb hopping (rules only require one wheel on the pavement) but otherwise fine.

She wasn't all that expensive, actually. People think they're seven figures just to buy them, but they're not even half that. I could drive her at the next IMSA event, if I wanted to pay the entry fee. I already have the requisite licensing.

I'm still spending the money I made from selling the beach house. I think she was a worthy purchase.

Also, if you check the number, it's a part of the Fibonacci sequence. ;-) That's how you know it's really mine.

Well, that and the fact that the pics aren't anywhere else on the web and they showed up the day I returned and have my timestamps on 'em, but yeah....

They are simple, but somehow 'correct'. You've got a way with lyrics. You really do. You need to get into a studio, even if it's just for yourself. You can get a 4 hour block of studio time for > $200 and that includes an engineer.

You've waited a year for this. More than 300 hours. 189 stubs. As many as 6 guitar layers and 3 drum layers at a time. This is perhaps the most complex piece we've put together. We hope it was worth the wait!

We started planning last January and started putting this together in August. The 300 hours only includes recording and mixing time. It doesn't include the hundreds of hours we spent learning and rehearsing the work. To try to enumerate who played what with our usual notation would make a URL that exceeded the max 255 characters. So, it's from the usual suspects and some guests.

And, it's a fitting tribute to be the last Christmas guitar track we made for Voat. Without further ado…
