Lachlan's week on the town THE crateloads of empty bottles of Croser fizz were heaped outside the Elizabeth Bay residence of the News Ltd deputy chairman and publisher of The Australian, Lachlan Murdoch, after last Monday night's party for the company's executives which he co-hosted with his parents.

His former fiancee, Kate Harbin, was by his side. It has been a huge week for the young media mogul, which included fronting up to top model Kate James' birthday party at a Darlinghurst hotel on the arm of marketing whiz Manon Youdale.

Last Sunday night he was back at one of his favourite eateries, the Wockpool in Potts Point in a party of six which included his father, Rupert.

What has been really fascinating the neighbours is the appearance of several Foxtel vehicles outside his home. Does this mean that the cable was only being laid after the arrival of Foxtel owner Rupert. Or was there was a glitch in the service?

This may have something to do with the guests of honour Ghislaine Maxwell, the beautiful, feisty 34-year-old daughter of the late disgraced media baron Robert Maxwell, and her millionaire American beau, Jeffrey Epstein, a property developer who is given to zipping around Manhattan in a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit. The couple is on a fleeting visit to Sydney after stopping off in Melbourne and spending some time with the Fox family.

Among those invited on last night's cruise were FAI chief Rodney Adler and his wife, Lindy, as well as James Packer and new girlfriend Deni Hines. Ghislaine, who has distanced herself from her two bankrupted brothers, Kcin and Ian, is said to be a loyal supporter of her late father, Cap'n Bob.

Robert Maxwell's demise after he disappeared off the decks of his luxury yacht The Lady Ghislaine was not thought to be a hot topic of conversation during last night's cruise.
