They say it so it must be true, that [collective] queer community, living life out of every orifice, squeezing every second of every day in attention seeking behavior has declared it. Like a colicky baby, every single day they remind the world of their uncurable angst. Every quiver of each fleeting emotion they experience immediately translates into DEMANDS, demands that the world drop everything, family, culture, language, jobs, school, right to privacy and free speech (not to mention science and religion), so that the required participation in 'Affirmation' de jour be offered up. However, any existence so feverishly enslaved in a state of hyper self-focus is almost by definition an empty shell of an existence, and a society that demands it's citizens to pretend otherwise under fear of politically driven retribution risks ending up as a lonely society for everyone.1 in 5 #LGBTQ+ people feel lonely almost every day.
While parts of the world are slowly moving out of a pandemic, the queer community is right in the middle of a loneliness epidemic.
As this year’s #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek is raising awareness of loneliness, we explore why LGBTQ+ people feel so alone.
