He was exceptionally good looking as a young man. And his wife was absolutely stunning in her younger years. They were a handsome couple. Little known facts: he was a published author and poet. One of his books was a setwork book for schools which was of course pulled because of his political views. I have the dvd of him reciting about 30 of his poems. With his incredible voice and presence, he could read a phone book and it would sound amazing. I'm so lucky to have attended many of his rallies, both in Cape Town and Pretoria. I even visited his farm in Ventersdorp with an AWB party from the Cape. We drove up there. I still clearly recall how he came striding over to us in the early morning (we drove through the night), followed by a gaggle of Coloured children (of his farm labourers) to whom he was handing out sweets.
In his poems, he honours his mother, his wife and his adopted daughter.
