Captain du Plessis and Operation Sceptic (1980)

7 Jun 1980, Operation Sceptic: Capt. IC du Plessis landed his badly damaged Mirage F1AZ at Ruacana (Namibia). The aircraft was damaged by shrapnel from a SAM fired at it during the bombing of a target. He barely made it to Ruacana. He was awarded an Honoris Crux for bravery for having saved the aircraft rather than ejecting from it.

Gutsy move on his part and the aircraft was probably repaired and put back into flight status.
