Put it into scale. Consider the enormity of the present world. Consider the small scale of olden times, with a fraction of present populations, communities.
I would venture to guess that the "push" was much more widespread and ingrained in olden times, by comparison. Also, I would bring attention to the fact that, in western civilizations, BEER was drunk daily often in place of (filthy) water. It was a weak homebrew made by the women.
I'm not dismissing jew tricks out of hand, just pointing out some weaker pts in this attack vector.
