16 December is Geloftedag in South Africa, the Day of the Vow/ Covenant

The Day of the Vow ( Geloftedag - repeat after me: https://a.pomf.cat/djwcjy.mp3 ) is an important day for Afrikaners, originating from the Battle of Blood River on 16 December 1838. The Voortrekkers (+- 400 of them) made a covenant with God. If he would grant them victory in a battle against 20 000 Zulus, they would always honour that day as a holy day.
He did - (the river ran red with the blood of bantus) and we do, despite the cANCer renaming the day as Reconciliation Day.
