Coloreds is also something I've had a hard time explaining to non-saffers: they're not white, they're not black, they're not indian. They're mixed, but they're not just mixed, they're mixed with their own culture that is several centuries old.

They look down upon mixed-race people, since they're not just mixed.

What a shitty life they lead - they don't belong anywhere except with their own.

I'll take Coloureds over bantus any day. Since 94 there's been a real awakening amongst Coloureds. They are far more aware and proud of their heritage.
I'm forever trying to explain to non-Saffers what a Cape Coloured is. A surprising number of old goats actually paid attention and still remember.

At least you can communicate and get along with Coloureds. And you can have a laugh with them. One time my sister in law and I were pulling out of a petrol station in her white bakkie. There were these 2 Coloured guys also in a White bakkie and when they saw her manoeuvres, they worriedly flattened their side mirror.

So my sister in law hung out the window and said "moenie worrie nie, wit op wit is ok!".

They just about pissed themselves laughing. So did I.

Westeners don't know what a bakkie is.
