It's decentralised, which is very good
Not mobile friendly - bad
Tricky to use at first - meh
Bit slow as is P2p - meh
But I'm feeling it, and from what I understand - can't be taken down

My main problem with it is that i need to download something to use it. something web based is better in my opinion as it can be accessed anywhere

It probably has the same problem as every P2P network. It needs bootstrap servers to get an initial list of peers. You can take down the whole network by deactivating those bootstrap servers.

It is vulnerable to that. Also being block chain based and P2P will make it very slow, especially as content is added on a scale voat uses. I also dislike standalone client and the promote mod system (hmm where have I seen THAT abused before?).

I've tried aether in the past as well - sounds like what I'd be after - but not quite there yet and only one developer as far as I know
This page has a few decent options:

Pretty sure that's how I came across Voat in the first place. Some of these i've tried - and they aren't going to work but Raddle looks promising - also looking into AKASHA now.

Hmmm... This is sad. We really need a decentralized EASY TO USE alternative. I don't see why this is so hard to set up.

The Aether blockchain is maintained by everyone's client as far as I can understand. The clients connect with each other and establish the consensus.
