Brief background leading to the second documentary..
"In the series When Louis Met... (2000–02), Theroux accompanied a different British celebrity in each program in their daily lives, interviewing them as they go. In an interview in 2015, Theroux expressed his intention to produce a follow-up documentary about Savile for the BBC to explore how the late entertainer had continued his abuse for so long, to meet people he knew closely, and examine his own reflections on his inability to dig more deeply into the first case.[19] This follow-up documentary, with the title Savile, aired on BBC Two on Sunday, 2 October 2016, and lasted 1 hour, 15 minutes.[20]"

This follow-up 2015-2016 documentary is well worth viewing in it's entirety. (I actually haven't seen the first one from 2000, other then the clips included within the second). Theroux does a great job during a series of interviews with people who worked with Savile for years, with some victims, and with his self reflections over his first documentary with Savile. Taken together with the clips of the sociopath predator himself, the disturbing ease to which Savile groomed people and held power over them begins to emerge, extending beyond the grave via the difficulty some had in rethinking their memories of working with him, something not all were capable or willing to do.

Like being exposed to a toxic substance, the side effects of spending time with an evil person (Savile), stay with Louis Theroux even years later as he struggles to articulate the experience in this 2019 interview (the dichotomy of finding out that someone who could come across as friendly or 'just an old fart' is actually a brazen sociopath.) Theroux goes on to comment on the phenomena of 'self grooming' that often results as people deal with mixed feelings about being groomed by an abuser.
