Our Cornell graduate Dr. Fauci was appointed Director of NIAID in 1984. Dr. Fauci has advised seven Presidents on HIV/AIDS and many other domestic and global health issues. He was one of the principal architects of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a program that has saved millions of lives throughout the developing world.

Fauci attended a private Jesuit school in Manhattan's Upper East Side, where he captained the school's basketball team .After graduating in 1958, Fauci attended the College of the Holy Cross, Fauci then attended medical school at Cornell University's Medical College (now Weill Cornell Medicine) where he graduated first in his class with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1966. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center (now Weill Cornell Medical Center).
