I spoke with Aether support in their live chat website window and I was told that they don´t recommend it if I want to use a VPN with the software, plus people must download the software, I can´t convice anybody to install software in their computer to chat and I don´t think it even works on mobile phones.
Not a good alternative.

Weird, I've convinced a lot of people to download web browsers, video chat clients, and virus protection. Maybe you aren't good at recommendations

Burak Nehbit was hired by google 2014. It would be interesting to know the circumstances surrounding him leaving the company.
