From the Sea, an Eagle - A Review of 4 Ezra - Stephen Pidgeon [1.41.15]
One of the greatest books of scripture ever written in the prior epoch must be the Cepher Ezra Reviy'iy (4 Ezra also known as 2 Esdras). Canonized as part of the Deuterocanon at the Council of Trent in 1536, the book is quoted directly in the gospels and its references are found elsewhere in the New Testament.
One of the visions given here, however, is the vision of an eagle rising out of the sea. This vision seems to be particularly relevant in our modern times - the only time when one superpower became the sole dominant force over the whole world (at least for a while). One can look back and talk about the power of Rome, or Byzantium, or any of the other great superpowers (Pax Britannica), yet never in all human history has the entire world been populated, surveyed, territorialized, nationalized, and otherwise accounted as it is today - and today and today only has there risen among the powers of the earth a singular superpower creating a unipolar world.
