Definitely going to be a thing. The site is running great on my 3$/month test server, and I haven't really done any optimiations yet. Some features are going to be missing, like image thumbnails. But I could figure out how to do that and implement anything else missing in the future.

All admin/mod/user IO tools are done. That was the most annoying part so far. Should be smooth sailing from here. Profile page is done. Just got done adding anon subs. Gonna look for a host later today.

So it's one thing to build it (and thank you for THAT) but then do you have to take responsibility for what happens on the site, answer to the feds and become the new Atko? I think that it's okay to be relatively untethered for leadership at Voat, but realistically, we need some leadership, a dad figure. I feel like I'm not seeing the more vocal people that are in my screenshots from past times. Are those people in their own chat bunkers somewhere until SearchVoat fills out more? Frankly, we only lost Voat at Christmas, it's only been three months and I really appreciate what has sprung up in its stead, but it feels like fucking years on an alien landscape. I was on Voat since 2015 so I'm really starting to feel the disturbance in the force. Voat really anchored me, with its news, its community, and just in how it looked. I preferred light mode until it switched to dark-by-default at a time when I didn't want to log in and have my activity tracked.

FYI I'm using https://nearlyfreespeech.net. (Reasonably) loose content rules, pay-as-you-go for usage, requires technical savvy. Doubt it will be resistant to DDOS etc.
