First Stanza

Lennon's intro into the song is his way of getting the listeners to mentally picture all people as one. By imagining that there isn't any other truth than what is currently known, and stripping away your own ideas, forgetting of others', you gain a sense of connection with them, an intimacy. Lennon starts with religion first, to tear down an insurmountable barrier, and allow a more open minded approach to seeing other people.
Stop planning, stop looking only towards the future. Live life in the moment, and stop worrying about wars and hate and religion.

Second Stanza

John imagined life as humans living in unity. If we look at what countries actually are, they are a bunch of walls set to divide us. Without countries, humans may actually "live in peace"
The artist is portraying that you will no longer have anything to sacrifice in an utopia, therefore not killing nor dying for anything any longer. as an example:
If we were to all get along then nobody would have to go through the pain and sacrifice of war. Thus living all as one with our fellow brothers and sisters with love and passion out there in this perfect world.
He's saying that if there weren't any religion then there might actually be peace and we would all get along not getting in wars over religion anymore, or having any wars at all.

Third Stanza

In this section of the song, Lennon is trying to convey that yes, some people may be in disbelief of what he is trying to achieve. But there are others that believe this too. He is in hope that he will be joined, as he is with open arms to welcome, so we can live in harmony.
John Lennon is trying to explain that the world can be one so there shouldn't be any wars, global issues or crises. Everyone should get along and no conflicts from either greed, murders, or riots should happen.

Fourth Stanza

Imagine no selfish dictators and bad people owning ridiculous much percentage of the world's richness.
Imagine no greedy rulers dominating others.
We wont have to worry about fighting and squabbling over base human desire and we wont have to go hungry from lack of food. One day we wont have to worry about all these thing and john is just letting us know what its like through this song. He want us to imagine living in a world where these things wont have to matter to us anymore because we'll be in total peace.
Lennon is putting forth an idea of forming a coalition of harmony between all peoples, creating a universal bond between all humans, no matter what their race, religion, or gender is.
Instead of all having countries, borders and armies, we should live in a united world, under one flag. We wouldn't have need for wars, religious activists, and border conflicts anymore.

Fifth Stanza

John wants there to only be peace and love in this world, not war. People think that he is weird and lives in his dreams, but he's not the only one who wants only love and peace in this world. He wants everyone to think that, so we can all live by love and peace, not war, hatred and feud with each other and other countries.
