Regina Louf, or witness X 1, caused a lot of commotion among our southern neighbors in the second half of the nineties with her testimonies about her terrible childhood. However, a wave of extremely biased publicity created the image of a mythomaniac in most Belgians who, with her stories of the sexual abuse, torture and even murder of children by a bunch of unscrupulous criminals and their high-ranking clientele, didn't just name her family. but also those of innocent people faded. One of those stories related to the violent death of fifteen-year-old Katrien de Cuyper at the end of 1991 / early 1992. Regina is said to have killed Katrien herself in a castle in 'sGravenwezel under inhuman pressure.
" ... In the afternoon of Saturday, March 1, 1997, X 1 is picked up by her interrogators from her home in Wondelgem. They are accompanied by investigators from the Antwerp GP and the Brasschaat BOB. It is the intention that she shows the way she at the time with Tony V. to reach the castle. X 1 leads them to 'sGravenwezel and gets lost there for a while. A GP gives her a hint and a little later the convoy stops in front of a castle plucked out of a fairytale with a stately turret, a spacious moat and a well-maintained domain around it. "Here it was"says X 1. The castle belongs to a certain Baron W. and is attached to the domain of the well-known Antwerp antique dealer Axel Vervoordt. He holds an open day twice a year, which gives the investigators the opportunity to have a look around. The curious thing about the W. family is that they also own properties in Knokke-Le Zoute, in streets where X 1 has already started designating houses a few months earlier ".

The above passage is a quote from the impressive book " The X dossiers. What Belgium was not allowed to know about the Dutroux case " (Antwerp / Baarn: Uitgeverijen Houtekiet / Fontein, 1999) and is extremely curious for several reasons.
First of all, the hint from the conscious GP suggests that the gentlemen detectives knew exactly what Regina was looking for. In addition, it is not stated whether the company entered Baron W.'s grounds for further inspection, but that is not very likely either. Instead, Regina and the accompanying convoy of sleuths do take the opportunity to visit the adjoining domain of the world-renowned art dealer and antiques dealer Axel Vervoordt, because he happened to organize an open day. Accidentally? Or did the detectives know this beforehand and tried to lure Regina out of the tent and / or warn Vervoordt of impending doom? Because Vervoordt also had a castle plucked from a fairytale there, which he had involved in 1984 after having done extremely well with his art dealership in the Antwerp Vlaeykensgang in the previous decade. And not only that. Axel's Medieval abode also fulfilled the description that Regina had given of it beforehand. But at the supreme moment she didn't let go of anything else. Only later would she add to her earlier account that she had been to the castle in 'sGravenwezel at least fifteen times and that on those occasions she had seen not only girls but also boys cowering. The reactions and statements of X 1 during the trip on March 1, 1997 were filmed by her traveling companions and added to official report no. 150,359, in which Regina drew baron W. into the limelight. Nothing serious happened to the baron and Vervoordt is nowhere in the traffic jams.

In August or September 1996, de Bonvoisin began to interfere with the Dutroux investigation, undoubtedly because he had gotten wind of X-dossier witnesses implicating him in child
abuse and torture networks. He was even mentioned as a central person in child hunts. X1 in PV 100.399, January 11, 1997: "Translation of a fax of X1 of January 6, 1997: She speaks of someone who judged to see if she was dangerous. It is about someone who prefers the violence: the sex is a dessert... He often went to hunt with VDB - he works at Sabena [president and CEO of Sabena 1970s1991 was Carlos van Rafelghem, who died in June 1991; regularly forced to negotiate with Mobutu, along with Etienne Davignon and Herman de Croo]. He participated in the hunts on children... Tony brought her to a domain - there were 4 other girls (Marianne; Valerie; Catharine; Sonja)... [present:] VDB [Paul Vanden Boeynants] - person from Sabena - 4 Gd [gendarme officers] - de Bonvoisin. There was also the gamekeeper who raped the girls but did no more than that. Bonvoisin was the most dangerous - he had come to kill... The girls run into the woods and each time they are caught they have to remove a piece of clothing. X1 is forced by Bonvoisin to stay with him - she must choose and point out the girls... Bonvoisin forces X1 pull the trigger while telling her that if she misses she is shot. She fires on Sonja and kills her. Marianne is killed with a cross-bow. X1 is raped and brought back home."

This text can easily be matched with: 1998, Regina Louf, 'Zwijgen is voor daders - De getuigenis van X1' ('Silence is for perpetrators - The testimony of X1'), p. 104: "He leaned against the pavilion, the other men stood laughing in a group drinking coffee. A sort of game-keeper kept two SintHubertus dogs on a leash. I quickly counted them, about ten men... I knew the domain, with its sloping hills, the big pond a bit further, the woods and the rhododendron 29/202 bushes. It didn't exactly comfort me to be taken out here... Silently I began to calculate how my chances were of getting out alive, and hope sank to my shoes. This would be a short hunting party, it still was far too light and the weather too nice to effectively hide yourself. And they
looked like it was really serious... I looked at Jo [one of her regular and most violent abusers], he didn't smile, not even tried to interact with the group. He tensely looked back. The
fear slowly crept up. This was serious... He [de Bonvoisin] had come to kill, the other men didn't play a role to me anymore, if he was sitting that unmoved he would do the most damage... The girls had to run into the woods, and each time they caught one, they had to take off a piece of clothing... I didn't have to play the game. He made me an accomplice by having me find these girls and pointing them out... When the girls had taken off all their clothes they started to aim. They shot next to them on purpose, hunting them up, and laughing about their fears. He came to stand behind me, readied his gun and helped me to aim it... 'If you miss we shoot you, if you hit you'll live,' he whispered in my ear, almost lovingly... [she hit]"

Philippe de Riquet is the 22nd Prince of Chimay since 1980, heading one of the eigh families that are still member of the Blue Salon. President and resident of Chateau de Chimay, which is surrouned by 130 ha. or 321 acres of private land. Hunts on young children have been organized in the woods surrounding this castle, according to X2's testimonies. Chateau de Chimay is in south-central Belgium, close to the French border and about 80 kilometers west of Chateau des Amerois.

Mr. De Baets was in charge of interrogating the X-witnesses after they volunteered to give information. The most controversial of them was a young woman originally known only as X1, but whose real name, it emerged, was Regina Louf.
Amid silence and tears during the course of several all-night interrogations, she poured out a terrifying tale of having been sold into prostitution by her grandmother and later introduced into a circle of orgies at which, she said, she had seen young children tortured and murdered.
The other X-witnesses, one of whom worked for the police, told similar stories of childhood abuse, and described hunts at which children were chased through woods with Dobermans.

Is Tony Podesta similarly friends with Vervoordt? The answer almost certainly is yes. For the longest time a first tiny little hint was that Susan Kleinberg, a New York City-based artist who considers herself a "pal" of John Podesta, also announced a performance at Axel Vervoordt's Palazzo Fortuny in an email to Podesta.

Then another hint popped up: Tony Podesta and wife Heather have maintained a summer home in Venice. Still a long shot, right? Then it turned out that the Podesta couple has been visiting this villa for more than a decade and up to a dozen times a year. Leading lobbyists as they are, they have hosted at least 20 members of congress here, including Ted Kennedy. [70] Still a long shot, right? Then it turned out that Tony and Heather Podesta never, or almost never, miss the Venice Biennale, the leading annual art show in the world in which much of Venice is transformed into an art circus. They extensively take part in the festivities. [71] According to Tony Podesta in 2013, "I've been coming [to Venice Biennale] for more than 25 years, so I guess that makes me a regular." [72] You know who else is a regular at Venice Biennale? Axel Vervoordt. In fact, he has been hosting the show annually at his Palazzo Fortuny, where he combines it with his own art show. [73] So, while there is no absolute proof, it appears Podesta and Vervoordt, both giants in the art world, know each other very well through Venice Biennale. Quite possibly their relationship goes back further than with their mutual friend Marina Abramovich.

In a 2-part conversation with Julia Draganovic of LaRete Art Projects, American lobbyist and art collector Tony Podesta shares his insights on the discoveries and observations regarding the 2013 Venice Biennale.

Today, he reckons, he and his wife have the world's biggest collection of Anna Gaskell ("maybe second to Anna Gaskell"). Other contemporary favourites include Gillian Wearing, Marina Abramovic, Sam Taylor-Wood and Olafur Eliasson, whose work Podesta discovered 10 years ago, when the artist was still at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen.

They are always looking out for little-known artists. Asked to come up with a handful of names that are in the second rank now, but that will one day be in the first, they offer a list that ranges across the world: Britain's Darren Almond, Janaina Tschape from Brazil, Mads Gamdrup from Denmark, the Italian artist Loris Cecchini and Patricia Piccinini, a Podesta protegee who is to represent Australia at the Venice biennial.

Since the early ’80s, Vervoordt has been combining objets d’art together in masterful ways at the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris. In 2007 he also started curating exhibitions at Palazzo Fortuny as part of the Venice Biennale. And in 2008, the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation became a reality. A non-profit organization that emerged out of the exhibitions Axel curated in the past. The foundation is a way to set up exhibitions and preserve the objects’ integrity for the coming generations.
