If too many dems are in quarantine, or are arrested, Republicans could have a majority and vote for Mcarthy for speaker

The rule passed last session allowed congressmen to vote by proxy. That rule will be void when the session opens. There can be no new rules voted on until after a speaker is elected. So anyone quarantining will not be allowed to leave their home and will not be able to vote. 90 D congressmen voted by proxy on December 18.

Three moderate Democrats say they don’t intend to vote for Pelosi when the vote takes place on January 3. In addition, several Democrats have health conditions that have kept them from the Capitol in 2020. It would only take a small number of Democrats being exposed to COVID-19 prior to the vote for Pelosi to potentially be in trouble.

Now if a handful of D's are arrested they would still have a quorem but would loose the majority.

I read that today, warmed my heart and gave me a glimmer of hope! The article I read said that there were a small number of dems with positive cases right now, so here's hoping they aren't out of their ridiculous quarantine before the 3rd!
