I spoke with Aether support in their live chat website window and I was told that they don´t recommend it if I want to use a VPN with the software, plus people must download the software, I can´t convice anybody to install software in their computer to chat and I don´t think it even works on mobile phones.

Not a good alternative.

Weird, I've convinced a lot of people to download web browsers, video chat clients, and virus protection. Maybe you aren't good at recommendations
