Alternate chat (and only chat): IRC.

Post by B3bomber »

An IRCOP on Rizon's IRC network said they generally don't mind/censor things. I will personally ask news links and whatnot to not be posted there. They're not persistent and I'd rather those that want us offline not have a target of their networks. Rizon has SSL servers, make sure your client and the server connection are SSL. I do not recommend web interfaces.

AKA, use it as an active chat room to handle alternative site ideas with easier real time than this.

No, I won't take the initiative to create the channel and whatnot. I have no idea how many will even bother to show up.

I would never use IRC, they usually ban Tor and VPN because people use them for spam, but this also means that those of us using it for legitimate reasons can not connect.

Find a VPS provider that respects anonymity, install ZNC, connect to irc server through your bouncer.

There is an option to use pidgin and the pidgin OTR to IRC, for secure coms (AES256) within a private channel establishing end to end encryption. Authentication 3 way.

OTR will be using a Tor IP, most likely banned from the server.

Maybe ... So, far my experience is not a bad one. On the other hand there are options to setup an IRC server for a specific purpose, apart from he fact that indy still survives despite the fact that every 5 years or so a server is being impounded. I guess it is more dangerous to discuss things privately, than actually abusing and grooming 12 year olds, as was done in Manchester, UK and elsewhere.

IRC is now bridged together with the Element(riot/matrix) chat.

If anyone has other chat platforms they prefer, I can look into bridging them together as well.
