I was looking for info on arrests related to pedophile/child abuse ring in Germany that was brought up around 30:30 - and 33:40 'where there is a global problem online...' and 35:00 'global networks across the world'

Let me make a note (not related to the destigmatizing argument) about the point discussed of the nexus of the problem (online vs in Germany) and what constitutes real-time crimes. By considering it only in those terms, the problem of the market for the material that continues to grow, means that crimes will exponentially increase to provide cp for that market. It becomes (has become) an industry. It would be nice to have sources listed on the page. Haven't finished the entire video yet. May have to listen to segments over time. Good luck getting people to volunteer themselves into 'therapy'. I'm dubious on the studies on the efficacy of the therapy and how one can quantify what someone 'didn't' do. Edit: see my other reply regarding the study after it was reappraised.

In July, Jeffrey Howard Hébert pleaded guilty to producing, possessing and distributing child pornography. Evidence revealed he accessed child pornography sites almost daily.

...In July, Hébert pleaded guilty to producing, possessing and distributing child pornography. It was not his first conviction for a sex crime involving minors. In 2016, he was sentenced to a 22-month prison term, at the Valleyfield courthouse, after he pleaded guilty to sexual interference, or touching a minor in a sexual manner.

According to a joint statement of facts presented to Paradis in July, Hébert drew the attention of police investigators shortly after the “National Center (on) Child Exploitation initiated an international investigation on the dark web aimed at identifying users who could be considered sex offenders.”

“During this investigation, (a username) was observed on certain sites dedicated to the promotion and distribution of material constituting child pornography, promoting the sexual abuse of children. This user repeatedly (commented and posted) links related to child pornography. It is in this context that the investigation begins more specifically on (Hébert).”
The focus on Hébert turned up “13,747 publications implicating the accused” starting in July 2014. The evidence revealed he accessed “child pornography sites dedicated mainly to young male children almost daily.” He also provided “technical advice to other users in connection with the commission of criminal offences related to the sexual exploitation of children.” He recounted and described “sexual encounters he allegedly had with children, including sexual assaults he himself allegedly committed.”

Other evidence revealed Hébert took up to 700 photos of children, believed to be around two and four years old, while they played naked outdoors near his home.

Cameras and listening devices were secretly installed inside Hébert’s residence, and an analysis of the evidence revealed he consumed “child pornography several hours a day.”

When the Montreal police searched his residence, they seized 32 items “mostly contaminated with child pornography. The preliminary analysis of a quarter of the data contained on a single USB key (analysis of only 100 GB out of 400 GB of said key) made it possible to categorize that 90,292 (67%) of 135,424 images and 1,567 (59%) of 2,646 videos constituted child pornography, with the remainder of the images and videos constituting almost entirely child nudity. The nature of child pornography is predominantly young male children (infant to prepubescent) involved in sexual acts with adults, including several acts of sodomy.”

Okay found the source of the study, or rather a reappraisal of the original study

The "Dunkelfeld" Project for Self-Identified Pedophiles: A Reappraisal of its Effectiveness
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30926521/

Introduction: The "Dunkelfeld" project offers pharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy to self-referred pedophilic patients in an anonymous way.

Aim: To provide a re-assessment focusing on the crucial time × group interaction (ie, the treatment effect).

Methods: A recent study reported on the effectiveness of the "Dunkelfeld" program based on intermediate data of a treatment group (TG; n = 53) and a waiting-list control group (CG; n = 22). With psychological indicators, it was concluded that the therapy program changed dynamic risk factors that are associated with sexually offending against children. Although based on an independent groups pre-post design, the original report includes within-group pre- and post-comparisons only, as well as between-group comparisons at the pre- and post-treatment stages. In the current study, an effect size index was computed that compares the change occurring in both groups (TG and CG) with each other (Morris d). Moreover, 95% CI of d were calculated.

Main outcome measures: The analyses were limited to 12 dynamic risk factors pertaining to emotional dysfunction, offense-supportive attitudes, sexual dysregulation, impression management, and 2 types of delinquent behavior, including recent behavior related to sexual offenses against children and recent use of child sexual abuse images.

Results: All 14 indicators showed weak treatment effects at most, with a median d of 0.30. None of the effect sizes was statistically significant (ie, in every case the 95% CI included 0). Further methodologic concerns include a familywise error rate close to 1 and too little statistical power to identify potential effects.

Clinical implications: As far as dynamic risk factors are concerned, the data do not show that treatment within the "Dunkelfeld" program leads to any reduction of the proneness to commit sexual offenses against children.

Strengths & limitations: The current study adds crucial information lacking in the original analysis. Because the re-appraisal has the same limited statistical power as the original study, the current results are tentative in the sense that the possibility of the program being effective cannot be ruled out. A further limitation is that not all of the dynamic risk factors chosen as indicators of possible treatment success have been established as relevant for sexual (re-)offending in prior empirical studies.

Conclusions: The outcome emphasizes the notion that independent groups pretest-posttest designs should be analyzed based on the treatment × time interaction. Mokros A, Banse R. The "Dunkelfeld" Project for Self-Identified Pedophiles: A Reappraisal of its Effectiveness. J Sex Med 2019;16:609-613.

Thanks for digging up that study! Interesting stuff and unsurprising that therapy generally proves ineffective.
