I hope it's okay that I plug my own site here, if not, feel free to remove.

I created [RAMBLE] about two weeks ago, mainly because I'm sick of big-tech and internet censorship. The idea was to create a website that was accessible and available through a variety of alternative and anonymity networks as described in the title, bridging them to a common platform where users can interact with a reddit-like site. The main focus is that of privacy.

I won't do a big long sales pitch on the idea, but you're free to check it out for yourself at any of the following URLs and see if it feels right to you:

(Note. the non-clearnet URLs only work if you're setup to use the networks in question)
We value privacy, first and foremost and believe in freedom of speech and the idea of safe spaces for all speech. Main topics of discussion are currently focused around technology, privacy and most recently: Drugs. However anyone is welcome to join and create a forum for their own topic.

Let me know if you have any questions/concerns and I'll be happy to answer them here or there.

Sorry for your loss. I've lurked Voat for 5.8 years (according to my account on the site) and I know it will be missed by many.

It will definitely be missed. Thanks for the information.

The tragic thing about this loss is that Voat was a hub, a centre for us, and there is no universal replacement. The herd will be thinned...

No problem, and at a glance, it looks like it has already. I've been on Aether for months, don't really care for it too much (just more software) and it seems like many have migrated there.

There really isn't a shortage of alternatives but people will go in different directions for different reasons. Something that allows access through anonymity networks (Such as an Onion Service or I2P site) I think should be a minimum requirement based on the content of Voat. That's one reason why RAMBLE is integrated into various networks, because it makes it impossible to share information that we don't know if provided with a request to do.

While RAMBLE looks basic, it's intended to work without javascript and be fast loading through various anonymity networks that are usually slower than the clearnet. The site is running on opensourced software and we've done a fork of it for some custom development to fulfill some feature requests in the coming year as well.

The main purpose will always be around privacy and related technology, but in the modern era of 'wrong think', I think most goats will see the value in remaining private online.

I just came in to post this because someone suggested it to me on ZeroNet.

When logged in click on your username in the menu and choose dark mode. :)

This is running on the current open-source Postmill code that I'll have some development done on in the future as part of our private fork since the main developer is a far left anarchist SJW and banned me from their support forum for supporting free speech. (Seriously)

So, fuck'em. We did our own fork of the code and will do our own custom development on it to add the features we want.

Things I'd like to add in the future:

* Toggle on/off light/dark mode without needing logged in.
* Ability to add/share your public PGP key to your profile, so members can send each other (on or off site) secured, encrypted messages. We do encourage the practice here: https://ramble.pw/f/PracticeEncryption . Can talk in plain sight and no one will know what is being said besides you and only your intended recipient.
* Preview posts similar to how the Reddit Enhancement Suite adds a toggle so you can read the body of a post without having to click on it.
* Image hosting for embedded and inline images in posts. It's not as simple as just allowing uploads because the URL structures need to remain appropriate so they load correctly on the various networks so if you're on the onion site, the image will load through the onion network and not the clearnet (for example). Shouldn't be hard since the rest of the site works properly, but just haven't gotten to it.

The site will likely never be as flashy as Voat or Ruqqus, but it's not meant to be. It may get some refinement to make it look a bit better but it's meant to function without javascript so it remains fast through the various anonymity networks and for privacy/security reasons.

I've made a Voat forum for you goats if you want to take it for a test drive. I'll happily relinquish control of the forum to any member (from Voat) who wants it. You can view it here: https://ramble.pw/f/Voat OR if you're using TOR: http://http://rambleeeqrhty6s5jgefdfdtc ... ion/f/Voat - Feel free to invite others.

EDIT: My welcome message to any Voat refugees: https://ramble.pw/f/Voat/587/to-the-voa ... -the-admin grab your empty barrels and scrap wood, form a life raft and float on ever.

I seem to have a problem with onion links. Any tips to make sure this fork of FF52 is properly configured? No idea if router firewall has anything to do with it at this point either.

Onion links are good to go, a good portion of our visitors use the Onion link. I see in my previous post I copied it wrong, so perhaps that's the issue?

Are you using: http://rambleeeqrhty6s5jgefdfdtc6tfgg4j ... aad.onion/ ?

PS: I had to create a new account here because the password reset emails don't work (Link just gives an nginx error). I'm on a different device that what I usually use. Here's the Voat hangout that's empty if you want to drop a line in there: http://rambleeeqrhty6s5jgefdfdtc6tfgg4j ... ion/f/Voat

Let me know if the issue persists. I'm currently using the site via the .onion URL without issue. I may respond from the Rambler account when at my desk.

IceCat can’t find the server at rambleeeqrhty6s5jgefdfdtc6tfgg4jj6svr4jpgk4wjtg3qshwbaad.onion.
That's what usually happens.

The server at rambleeeqrhty6s5jgefdfdtc6tfgg4jj6svr4jpgk4wjtg3qshwbaad.onion.link is taking too long to respond.
After I add .link which is needed for some reason (multiple browsers).

What port does this typically use? I have used onion links before and at one point they just stopped working.

Edgerouter Lite handles routing+hardware firewall.

Sorry about that. Seems to work now.
