I say that now. My Uncle landed in Normandy on D+1 and fought up the coast of France and on into Holland and ended up in Germany by the time WW2 ended. He always had regrets about it all. Back in the 80's he called it a brother war. He opened my eyes when i was a young soldier and warned me back then about the true nature of wars and who financed them.

Yes he was my friend, being a soldier was in my family bloodline. It started with my grandfather in France during WW1 and 3 of my uncles and my own father in WW2 and a 4th uncle plus my brother and myself during the cold war. I was last to serve. I have regrets but most of all I joined to protect my family first and my country second. My 4th uncle and I served in the same regiment at the same time believe it or not. We were always asked if we were related and we always told everyone he was my mom's younger brother which in fact he was.
