If only. I vividly recall our holidays there as a very young child. We would drive there from SA in our modest family car. We visited my cousins who lived there and ended up having to flee. We went twice, once when it was Rhodesia: we had a great time. You could stop and talk to black vendors by the roadside, in fact they would run after the car showing their wares. The most beautiful hand crafted baskets and bags, etc. We stopped and picked these gigantic weird looking seed pods from trees. Flew over Vic Falls in a helicopter, went for a boat ride on the Zambezi, saw Kariba. Excellent service wherever you went from blacks who knew their place.
The next time we went, it was Zim. Even as a young child, I could sense the change - hotels we had stayed at the last time had closed down. Gone to rack and ruin. Listless blacks stood glaring at us on every street corner. We felt afraid the whole time we were there.

I forgot to add. My dad (god rest his soul) always used to tell us kids that those balls of butter we were served in the hotels were made by blacks rubbing butter into balls with their bare hands. As a result, we ate our toast without butter
