Without electricity, the kaffers have to resort to fire to heat themselves.
Mind you, it's 30 degrees in the day and 18 at night, so it's not exactly freezing, but one can understand the kaffer's worry that it might get really, really cold all of sudden - so best be prepared with a large fire.
