This battle is known as the Battle of Vegkop and the Boers were led by Andries Potgieter. Women and children fought alongside the men. It was one of the biggest military achievements of the Great Trek.

Afterwards, Over 1000 assegai spears were found inside the laager. The matabeles stole 10 000 head of livestock. Fortunately the horses were inside the laager.
The first monument was erected at Vegkop in 1883. It was moved to the current site in 1912.

Interesting stuff! I ran the article through jewgle translate, which is usually mediocre at best, with lots of errors. Afrikaans to English;

Battle of Vegkop October 1836

The Battle of Vegkop was the first collision with blacks north of the
Orange River. Tractors draw lower to the southern foot of Vegkop (at the time
Doornkop). The pull leader was Andries Hendrik Potgieter. The spiritual leader was Charl Cilliers.

The Matabeles came from the current Zeerust near Botswana. The tractors drive the Matabeles about one hour on horseback from fighting head. They truly negotiate, but it failed. They chase back to the army and get ready for the battle. Strengthen the openings between the wagons with thorn branches.

35 Verifiable tractors at about 5 000 Matabeles under the lead of Kalipi participated in the battle. The battle lasted about 3 to 4 hours. The then president of the South African Republic Paul Kruger (when 10 years old) participated in the battle. Two tractors die and 14 are wounded. The deceased were Nicolaas Potgieter and Piet Botha, brother and brother-in-law of a.h. Potgieter. They were both buried at the foot of fighting

430 Matabeles were killed and 1,137 assegais were picked up within the camp. The Mababies performs 6,000 cattle and 4,000 sheep and goats. The horses were within the army. Morocca, the Barollong captain, sends treks to take the stranded tractors to Thaba Nchu, near Lesotho.

The first monument was erected on October 2, 1883. In December 1912
moved to the current site. The CJDV (Christian Jonderde Debates Association) Hall was built in 1905. It currently serves as a museum. There are three sections viz. Voortrekker, Boer War and Heilbron History. Vegkop was restored by the previous government in 1984. An image of a tractor on a stone stack was done by the sculptor Coert Steynberg. It was his last image. In the ring wall around the image, 6 Frisian was made by his daughter Isa Wichers.

On top of Vegkop, Goya huts of unknown black tribes from the late Iron Age (early 1800s).

Tractors should be ox wagons. The "pull" leader = the leader of the Great Trek.

But that's what you get with machine translations 😉
