A total of 113 animals at the zoo will receive the two-dose experimental vaccine produced by Zoetis, a former subsidiary of Pfizer headquartered in New Jersey. A female ring-tailed lemur named Charlie this week became the first animal to receive a special COVID-19 vaccination at the Philadelphia Zoo.

Charlie was part of a group of 10 animals, including four other ring-tailed lemurs, four western lowland gorillas, and a Sumatran orangutan, to get their shots.

In the coming weeks, 113 animals at the zoo will receive the two-dose vaccine from a shipment of 240 doses provided by Zoetis, a former subsidiary of Pfizer headquartered in New Jersey that develops drugs for animals.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Zoo is reviewing the possibility of vaccinating their animals susceptible to COVID-19.

“While carefully reviewing the research, we’re looking into the options of vaccinating our animals against the virus that causes COVID-19,” Director of Animal Health and Chief Veterinarian Dr. Jb Minter said.

“If we are able to move ahead with this protocol, we’ll start by vaccinating our great apes (chimps, gorillas), otters and big cats, as those are species here at our Zoo that are most susceptible to the virus,” Minter said.

At least 18 of the 20 gorillas at Atlanta's zoo have now tested positive for COVID-19, an outbreak that began just days before the zoo had hoped to obtain a veterinary vaccine for the primates, officials said Tuesday. Zoo Atlanta had announced the first positive tests among the western lowland gorillas on Friday after employees noticed the gorillas had been coughing, had runny noses and showed changes in appetite. A veterinary lab at the University of Georgia returned positive tests for the respiratory illness.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It's not just humans who are getting coronavirus. A tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive.

The 4-year-old Malayan Tiger named Nadia developed a dry cough and a decrease in appetite. She was tested out of an abundance of caution. Six other tigers and lions are also showing symptoms but are expected to recover. The Zoo says the animals were infected by a person who was caring from them, who was asymptomatic. Dr. Hinshaw says this news from the Bronx has certainly created a new awareness.
"Now that this tiger has turned up positive, we have expanded our precautions to all of the carnivorous animals at the zoo," he says. "Handlers are wearing masks and gloves and keeping distance from animals."

BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore will begin vaccinating specific species that have been proven to be susceptible to COVID-19 within the next few months.

“We expect to receive the vaccine in the fall from the animal health company Zoetis, which has developed a vaccine specifically for animals,” said Dr. Ellen Bronson, senior director of animal health, conservation, and research at The Maryland Zoo. “We have not had any cases of COVID-19 in the animals here, but the vaccine will add another layer of protection for the animals in our care.”

Jacksonville, FL — The push to get more people vaccinated against COVID-19 doesn’t just stop at humans. Zoos across the country are starting to vaccinate their animals. Dr. Yousef Jafarey, a veterinarian at the Jacksonville Zoo said, “We’re doing all of our bats. We’re also doing otters as well as a number of our carnivore species like the bears and the coyotes. And we’re also doing zooids, so warty pigs and warthogs.”
The list goes on and on...It will never be enough for them to just poison humans...
